Feedback from previous events; It was great to see the return of Macclesfield Bikeathon this year, and I was very pleased to take part in it. The event was very well-organised, with important logistical information available beforehand, and the entire route was fully signposted and marshalled. The Bikeathon catered for a range of abilities and skills, with three different courses on offer. Bikeathon has raised over £7,000.00 for much-valued local charity, Just Drop-In".
Macclesfield residents will have fond memories of this popular cycling fundraiser.
The Bikeathon concept is simple – book, turn up to ride and raise money for Just Drop In Macclesfield.
We will take you on a well-rounded tour of the area, with an opportunity to ride happily in the knowledge that your miles will be making a difference.
We have a new 12 mile family route which heads north out of Macclesfield along The Middlewood Way towards Poynton where the route joins the road and heads south back towards Macclesfield.
Ride around the beautiful Cheshire Plain with its quiet hedgerow lined lanes.
The route heads west from Macclesfield towards Jodrell Bank then north towards the feed station at Great Warford Baptist Church. Then it is on to Alderley Edge and Mottram St Andrew before returning to the Macclesfield town centre where the welcome of the finish line awaits.
The longer 64 mile route follows the above 33 mile route to the feed station at Great Warford. It then continues west, following quiet Cheshire lanes towards Tatton Park taking in views as you ride through the parkland. From here more country lanes link to Byley where the route turns for home heading northeast back towards the feed station for another refreshment stop and the final push back to Macclesfield to collect your finishers' goodies.
